We are the Baird family, an everyday normal family of five, the three children and us adults. We originally come from a small town in North Wales, UK, called Denbigh. In 2001 we purchased our first house, a semi-detached three-bedroom home in a quiet residential area of the town and lived there in relative comfort with friends and family not too far away. We bought the house before the big property boom occurred so life was good for us at that time. Lance worked as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and I worked part-time in a residential college plus owning my own part-time home business as a Nutritional Therapist. Once our two youngest children were born we started to doubt our happiness in the UK as a whole and looked for somewhere further a field to live. That is when we decided that moving elsewhere in the UK would not do and so we set about the Internet to research. The very first place that came to us was Canada and so our efforts turned to “Emigration Canada”. It turned out that the emigration to Canada would take a lot longer than we had anticipated, so with us being unhappy in the UK we decided to give New Zealand a try, a move that we made in 2005 to Gisborne.  After several months it became clear to us that New Zealand was not what we thought it would be, too far away from family and friends back home in the UK. So the Baird’s sold up in New Zealand after 18 months and undertook another marathon move, again across to the other side of the world to chase their original emigration plans!

We have been in Canada now for one year and although things have been tough we are still optimistic that we will stay here. The children have settled well into school and they are enjoying the different aspects of Canadian living. Our first Canadian Winter was harsh, very cold, the coldest being around -47 with wind chill. To be honest despite the chilling we did not mind too much about it and carried on regardless. The snow was something that we all wanted after our time spent in Gisborne, New Zealand so Christmas was very festive with a deep blanket of the white stuff to help with the spirit of things. We are now mid Spring and the weather has started to warm up nicely, so I have been able to get my green fingers back and plant some flowers and a vegetable plot. Lance continues to work at the local hospital.

We are all looking forward to our family visit in July when my parents are coming over for a week’s vacation. Good luck to all the Denbighshire Free Press readers in the competition to win a signed copy of my book.

Emma’s has finished her second book “Brimble Brash of Windy Hollow” and is currenlty looking at illustrations. The book will be aimed  at children , 7 to 11 years of age and is the first in a series of books based on the Tales of Brimble Brash.

Further news and book excerpts will be available in the near future. A third  and fourth book have also been started.

I hope you enjoy my first book.
